Canada Post hosted a special event in Port Rowan today (Monday).
New stamps were issued to draw attention to two of the country’s endangered frog species – the Oregon spotted frog and the Fowler’s toad.
The Fowler’s Toad has a special connection to the Port Rowan area.
That was Post Master Christopher LaBerge speaking at the busy Post Office as word started to spread amongst collectors in the area that a new stamp was out and Port Rowan was a cancellation location.
For non-collectors, LaBerge broke down just exactly what that means.
So, with that, Port Rowan being picked is a pretty big deal.
LaBerge, while serving as the role of Post Master, is also an avid stamp collector so he knows that this is a pretty big deal on that front as well.
News of the stamp coming out was a closely guarded secret up until today.
LaBerge talked about the Eclipse stamp coming out, and how it was announced ahead of time.
That led to collectors coming into their Canada Post location and buying up the stamps in bulk, leaving any community members interested in getting it having to travel around to find it.
So, LaBerge is happy this announcement was kept close to the vest.
Stamps and collectibles are available at canadapost.ca and postal outlets across Canada.
LeBerge and his team is eager for people to stop by their location and chat about the new stamp.
