Voting for the worst roads is out and there are several Norfolk roads that could certainly make the cut.
The annual CAA Worst Roads campaign is returning and CAA South Central Ontario (CAA SCO) is giving residents the opportunity to voice their concerns about local road conditions.
According to a survey conducted by CAA SCO, research shows that 42 per cent of their respondents say poor road conditions have caused damage to their vehicle – and 82 per cent of those surveyed had to pay out of pocket for repairs.
Teresa Di Felice, assistant vice president government and community relations with CAA SCO, says this means different habits for drivers.
CAA SCO reports that vehicle damage caused by pothole can range from $500 to over $2,000. Those surveyed say they spent $852 on average to repair their vehicle.
This is where the CAA Worst Roads campaign aims to help residents. Since its inception in 2003, its been a platform for Ontarians to nominate and vote for roads they believe need urgent attention. Di Felice says the information will go directly to municipalities.
Until April 19, residents will have the opportunity to vote on the worst roads in their local area. By the end of the campaign, a list of ten roads will be released, as well as a series of regional lists that present the top 5 worst roads in ten regions across the province. Di Felice leaves with a message to drivers.
