It was an early start at council chambers today and council members received a lengthy report on curbside waste collection options for the county.
A few of the the many topics discussed in the report, were:
- decreasing the bag limit of households
- bi-weekly pick up
- introducing an organic waste program (also known as a green bin)
- changing from manual collection to an automated cart or wheelie bin system
The Province has made a number of statements regarding municipalities reducing their waste. Ontario has limited landfill capacity and current landfill sites are projected to be full by 2032.
Norfolk County Council will need to make final decisions regarding contracts by this coming September. There is likely to be a survey and opportunities for the public to give their input in the coming months.
