The first ever Mayor’s Affordability Roundtable took place on Tuesday at council chambers.
That was Mayor Amy Martin, looking around the members of the community as well as members from council who were in attendance.
She wanted to make a note of how crucial this roundtable is and the work that has already put in to get this group of individuals in the room.
She also made it clear what their goals are moving forward.
The meeting had each member introduce themselves, their backgrounds, and why there were there.
They then got a brief overview of some of the challenges facing Norfolk.
One of the issues that was discussed was concerns about the lack of student housing with Fanshawe college and partnerships and ideas that can be used moving forward to help the many students struggling to find a place to stay.
They also passed their first motion:
That the Mayor’s Affordability Roundtable Committee hereby recommends that Norfolk Council direct staff to provide a report of “the current water and wastewater billing service contract with ERTH” including service levels and associated costs, and provide a comparison to an in-house option in an effort to find efficiencies and cost savings.
