Superbowl Sunday is this weekend and the Ontario Provincial Police want it to be a night of celebration – but not a night of poor choices.
That was Sgt. Ed Sanchuk, who said our local Norfolk OPP will be ready for drivers going out onto the roadway before and after the game while impaired.
Police are aware that this coming Sunday (Feb. 11) there will be a lot of people gathering for house parties to watch the game, or heading to a bar to catch the big game, but some of those individuals will leave those parties intoxicated and get behind the wheel.
During his long tenure here in Norfolk, Sanchuk has seen first hand that this is sadly the case.
On top of the risk of serious injury to you or someone else on the roadway, it is also important to note that for house parties, a homeowner could be held responsible if someone leaves their party intoxicated and gets into a collision.
Sanchuk concluded saying this is suppose to be a fun night with people you love enjoying a fun sport – it doesn’t need to lead to tragedy.
If you suspect an impaired driver out on the roadway, you are always encouraged to contact the police immediately.
