Norfolk General Hospital is collaborating on a new program that will give thousands of pounds of food to the community.
Second Harvest’s Food Rescue program, which began in November, has already made a significant impact in addressing food insecurity in our community.
So far the hospital, which has made it a priority to address this issue, has distributed nearly 7,500 pounds of nutritious food to local food banks and greatly reduced food waste.
Hospital President Todd Stepanuik says a lack of access to healthy food is a challenge for many adding this initiative has major impacts on the overall health of our community as good nutrition is fundamental to good health.
The platform connects businesses with surplus food to social service programs in local communities, emphasizing a localized approach to combating
food waste and hunger.
