Remembrance Day may not be for another couple of weeks, but the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poppy Campaign has officially started as of today.
Funds raised from the Poppy Campaign helps the Legion support Veterans and Remembrance in our community, and to ensure that Veterans and their families receive the disability benefits they deserve.
This is why the Legion would like to remind you that they hold the trademark for the Poppy, ensuring that the symbol of Remembrance is used with the utmost respect, and to prevent unauthorized retailers from misusing the symbol.
The Legion also asks that you report any trademark violations to poppytrademark@legion.ca.
If you’re interested in displaying a Poppy in some way other than the traditional lapel pins that can be found at the Legion and throughout our community, visit poppystore.ca, where you can purchase clothing, jewelry, mittens and more.
There is also the option to join your local Legion, which not only supports the organization, but it also entitles you to MemberPerks, where you can shop online or in store at local and national stores and service providers and save.
You can also visit PoppyStories.ca on your smart phone, where you can scan a lapel Poppy with your phone and be introduced to fallen soldiers and their individual stories.
These stories tell you where and how soldiers grew up in Canada, their family history, pre-war careers, and even their passions; and this year the Legion has added 50 new stories that focus on peacekeeping.
Remembrance Day is on November 11th, with the Teeterville Legion observing it the Sunday before, as is their tradition.
