The International Agricultural Worker Health Clinics Program is working on providing healthcare to migrant workers in our area.
Lynda Kohler, program manager at Grand River Community Health Centre in Brantford, explained a bit about the program.
They also provide pop-up services in other locations such as Burford, Brantford, and on farm clinics.
The group has received funding from Ontario Health to provide these services to the 4,500 workers in Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk.
She said in the past farmers had to take their workers to emergency departments or walk in clinics because there weren’t other options.
The pulbic health units have been supporting the program by providing the contact information to farmers to distribute to their workers.
She added they are working to ensure there are no barriers to the access to healthcare.
There are volunteer opportunities available with the program.
