Dementia-friendly social cafes are happening across Norfolk County starting this September.
Laurie Ball, the local Social Programs Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society, explained what these cafes look like.
They have been happening at Hazel Place in Simcoe, but are now expanding to Waterford, Delhi, and Port Dover as well.
She explained why these are important to members of our community.
If you think this is something your family member or friend would benefit from, they can register with the Alzheimer Society with their care partner.
There is also other programming that will be travelling throughout the community.
The cafes happen at the Waterford Heritage and Agricultural Museum the first Tuesday of the month, Delhi Friendship Centre the next, Port Dover Lions Silver Lake Market the third, and Hazel Place the fourth Tuesday of each month. They run from 2 to 3:30 p.m.
For more information about Social Café’s and other programs offered by the Alzheimer Society, visit www.alzda.ca or call 1-800-565-4614.
Ball also added if you have any questions about their programing or other services they office, feel free to reach out.
