Eighteen people have been arrested after police seized nearly $100 million worth of illegal cannabis at a large-scale drug operation in Brantford.
In a joint effort, the Brantford Police Service Tactical Intelligence Generated Enforcement and Response and the Ontario Provincial Police Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team investigated a sprawling unauthorized cannabis grow op.
Police executed a search warrant at an industrial site on Mohawk Street on August 9.
They seized over 83,000 cannabis plants at different growth stages, valued at $83 million, and almost 5,150 pounds of dried cannabis, worth around $12.8 million.
In total, nearly $100 million in illegal cannabis was confiscated.
Also, 18 individuals were arrested on the scene, all facing charges for unauthorized cultivation under the Cannabis Act.
Police say the investigation is continuing.
