A fire ban is now in effect.
Due to the extremely dry conditions and poor air quality issues caused by wildfires in Northern Ontario and Quebec, Fire Chief Gord Stilwell has issued a fire ban for all of Norfolk County.
All open-air fires, including backyard recreational fires and the use of fireworks are prohibited.
This is effective immediately and until further notice.
The only exceptions to the ban are cooking fires contained in an approved natural gas or propane barbeque, campfires in campgrounds with an approved fire safety plan, and extenuating circumstances as approved by the Fire Chief.
