Theatre should be enjoyed by all.
That is why Lighthouse Festival in Port Dover is providing relaxed performances.
These performances are meant to provide an accessible show that meets the physical, social, and environmental needs of attendees of all abilities.
The Relaxed Performance Coordinator, Jaymieson O’Neill, told us about this program’s pilot project last year.
The first relaxed show this season is of Come Down from Up River and it takes place this Friday at 2 p.m.
O’Neill described what a relaxed performance looks like from the audience perspective.
During these performances, vocalizations of attendees are welcome, interaction with the cast and crew before and after the shows is encouraged, and a visual guide of the theatre is provided beforehand to ensure those in attendance are familiar with the environment when they arrive.
They will also have mobility device support available if needed, and hearing devices ready for those that reserve them ahead of time.
There will also be one relaxed performance at their Port Colborne location this summer.
The price of these shows is modified to make it more accessible in that aspect as well.
