Physician burnout continues to be a topic of discussion since the COVID-19 pandemic exposed a lot of existing gaps in the healthcare system and created new ones.
The healthcare sector alongside all levels of government are trying to stop the bleeding.
President of the Ontario Medical Association Dr. Rose Zacharias says a big cause of physician’s feeling burnt out is the paperwork.
She says another issue that needs to be addressed, and would be of immediate help, would be to cut some red tape keeping internationally trained doctors from practising.
Zacharias says finding a way to streamline the administrative work is paramount to keeping doctors in a good headspace and having more doctors available in a community will only help as well.
