Lakewood Elementary School students received the gift of music.
Joe Archer, a prep teacher at the school, heard of a program run through Birdtown Jamboree and saw a need at the school.
During the club’s meeting at the school last week, Archer explained why he wanted to bring the program to Port Dover.
As a prep teacher, Archer sees students between Kindergarten to Grade 6 throughout the day. He said you see different emotions throughout the students, and he believes music has always helped improve someone’s mood throughout the day so he has suggested the program to some students.
The Birdtown Jamboree have provided guitars, tuners and capos for the students to learn with.
Two Grade 7 students in the newly formed guitar club, Isabelle Jolley and Kennedy Beck, are enjoying their time with the instruments and instructor, Daniel Fewings.
They recommended the club to anyone who wants to join.
Fewings visits the school once a week to help introduce the students to the basics of playing guitar.
