We aren’t quite through with the first month of January, and some people have already abandoned or are struggling with their New Year’s Resolution.
Especially if that goal is weight loss and a healthy lifestyle.
While many people will turn to professionals in time of need, a lot of people simply turn to the internet for the latest diet or tip in order to reach their body transformation goals.
We spoke to an actual expert when it comes to this goal, Dietician Laura Goyette with the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit.
She said people want to see results right away, but getting healthy/falling off the bandwagon/jumping back on again lifestyle can be bad for not just your body but your brain as well.
Goyette told us that studies have shown people who “yoyo” are more prone to depression.
She said weight loss and healthy eating is something that should be a long term goal.
While you may want to LOSE weight, a big word in your vocabulary should be “ADDING.”
She added it’s important to have the right mindset going in to this new way of life.
You are allowed to have bad days.
Finally, she said there are resources available for people right now – free of charge.
The Health Unit is working on a registered dietician directory right now that they are hoping to get online in the coming months.
