A telecommunications tower was a hot topic of conversation in the council chambers this week.
On Tuesday, Norfolk County Council heard two deputations and a staff presentation about a proposed 60-metre tower on Front Road in Port Rowan.
First, council heard from Brendan Chiu, a planner with Fontur who was coming to the meeting to represent Bell Media.
He explained how only having one cell tower in the area can impact our beach front towns in the summer months.
For the last few years, a temporary tower has been in place to help with the coverage in the area.
Dropped 911 calls prove to be a continuous issue for Marshall Collins, of Collins Harbour Marina.
Staff’s biggest concern is that another tower is already set to be built nearby. It has been in the works for a few years and they would like to see if it would resolve the issues in the area.
They also requested another location be considered as the lot recommended in very close to the beach front and will be very visible.
Council moved to have staff look into the possibility of the already approved tower to be used for both uses.
Staff are then directed to send along the public comments to the federal government along with Council’s approval.
