The Grand River Conservation Authority and the Long Point Conservation Authority have issued a Flood Warning for the entire Lake Erie shoreline.
Strong winds and high waves are expected to cause flooding in very low-lying areas along the shoreline.
Environment Canada is forecasting sustained strong south-westerly winds moving at 40 to 50 km/hour with gusts of 90to 110 km/hour during the day Friday before slowly diminishing over the weekend.
The storm surge forecasts water levels at Port Colborne to reach 2.75 meters above normal during the day Friday, and waves ranging from 2.0 to 3.0 meters are predicted for the Lake Erie shoreline, further, wave uprush and increased shoreline erosion can be expected from this event.
Haldimand County residents and businesses within LPRCA’s watershed should be aware flooding could reach Lake Erie Flood Stage 3.
People are urged to use caution or stay away from Lake Erie shoreline areas experiencing strong wave action and elevated water levels.
Parents are reminded to keep children and pets away from these areas.
Haldimand County Emergency Services will be actively monitoring conditions throughout Thursday, Friday, and into the weekend.
