
It was a beehive of activity at council chambers last night.
Several council hopefuls gathered as the results came in from across the county to see who was going to be on Norfolk County Council.
In Ward 1, Tom Masschaele had a strong win with 1310 votes compared to challenger Randy Mawhiney’s 721.
In Ward 2, it was much of the same.
Incumbent Linda Vandendriessche had a massive victory with 1346 votes compared to Lucas Tulpin’s 318.
Vandendriessche said she is looking forward to working with this new council.
In Ward 3, Michael Columbus essentially ran unopposed after his opponent Jeanette Gomori-Cole stopped campaigning and no longer sought the council seat.
Columbus received 1616 votes and, despite her stepping down, Gomori-Cole still did receive 349.
In Ward 4, Chris Van Paassen was voted back in for another term.
He received 1108 votes, William Murray had 504, Jeff Smrcka had 300, and despite also asking people not to vote for him, Tony Lasanowski still did receive 136 votes.
Van Paassen also wanted to express how he was looking forwards to seeing some new faces around the table as well.
In Ward 5, Alan Duthie and Doug Brunton took the two seat for the Simcoe Area.
Duthie had 2375 votes, Brunton had 1906, Peter Black had 1427, Kristine Mitchell had 1402, Brian Jones had 703, and Ryan Taylor – who also asked residents not to vote for him – received 527 votes.
Duthie was at the event last night and was blown away with the support.
He was also thankful for everyone who put their hat into the race.
Brunton was not available last night but we hope to speak with him today.
In Ward 6, Adam Veri had a big win.
He received 2654 votes, Peter Butler has 1015, Pamela Taylor has 216, Holly Ann Smith had 141, and Adam Wilson got 121.
Veri was also not available last night but we will be speaking with him this morning.
In Ward 7, Kim Huffman kept her seat in the Waterford area.
She received 1073 votes, Lorraine Skarratt has 742, Grant MacDonald had 447, and Lana Plank has 105.
Huffman is also looking forward to the new faces joining her at council.
