Education Minister Stephen Lecce has announced new funding for parents to help students “catch up” from the pandemic.
He says parents of school-aged children can apply starting today for payments of up to 200-dollars per child or 250-dollars for kids with special needs.
Lecce says the payments will help provide tutoring for students — but the government announcement contains no references to parents having to prove how the money would be used.
When vague details of the 365-million dollar program were announced in the provincial budget, critics said money should go toward the public education system and not be funnelled to private tutoring companies.
