Brian Jones is a name many people familiar with Simcoe will know off hand.
Whether it’s his involvement with the Downtown Simcoe BIA, the Homelessness Round Table, The Friday Night Market, or even his time at the United Way – Jones has been a presence in Simcoe for some time and now he wants to do more.
He has launched his Jones For 5 municipal campaign, with a picture of the hand and the number 5 being on his logo.
And Jones knows there are challenges in Norfolk County.
He knows money is tight all around, and he says many people simply can’t afford to stay in Norfolk.
Jones feels he has a set of skills that would work well at Town Hall.
Over the years, he said he has been able to get things done and get projects off the ground – not just by himself, but by being willing to listen and work with everyone involved.
His career in communications is also something he feels is a big asset moving forward, as he believes a lot of Norfolk’s problems, or how they are observed by the public, are simply due to a failure to communicate.
When it comes to concerns he’d like to address at Town Hall, Jones said Norfolk use to be a place where light manufacturing thrived, and he’d like to see those good paying jobs return.
He also said he would never want to see council dip into the reserve fund again to artificially lower taxes for residents, as it will just cause a bigger mess next year.
Jones also noted that sometimes council will have to bite the bullet and get projects done sooner rather than later, especially infrastructure projects, because they never get cheaper as the years go on.
The prices for those projects only go up, so if the county can afford to get it done now, they should.
