William Murray wants to be the voice of Ward 4.
Murray put in his paperwork, running against incumbent Chris Van Paassen, hoping to bring a new perspective to Town Hall.
Over 12-years ago, Murray bought a cottage in Normandale and fell in love with the community – deciding to call it home shortly after.
He planted his seeds in the community, starting a Normandale Community Group which did fun activities such as movie nights and other family friend ideas.
But he had to quickly pivot a few years ago when it was announced the province was planning on selling the beach, and he drummed up pressure on all levels of government to change this.
He said this advocating really opened his eyes to things that need to be changed and pushed him to run for a seat in council chambers.
He wants to make some changes – starting with some basic equality across the wards.
He said another issue they face in Ward 4, and other remote parts of the county, is the lack of police presence which leads to excessive speeders.
When it comes to skills he can bring to the table, he said an open mind that isn’t set in the “it’s the way it’s always been done” mentality can bring forth a lot of change.
In that same mindset, he wants to see the county being recognizes as innovators and not as the county that is struggling to keep up with the times.
Right now, Murray works at Toyota in Woodstock but is leaving the job in the near future.
He said he would would like to serve as a full time councillor.
