Ryder’s Rainbow is one step closer to completion.
Ryder Mandryk and Adam Veri, who has been working hard behind the scenes on this project, dropped off the cheque for the rainbow crosswalk earlier this week.
Young Ryder had advocated for a rainbow crosswalk in Simcoe, and had raised the funds through community support to get it done.
The hope was originally to have the project cost split 50/50, but the majority of council had issue with the price tag involved.
Shortly after, the community came out to raise the additional funds required.
They asked for a photo for this big moment and were happy to see Mayor Kristal Chopp come out to accept the cheque herself on behalf of the county.
The crosswalk is officially paid for and should begin this summer.
They are already well underway in their next endeavor – putting up a rainbow crosswalk in Port Dover.
