There isn’t a better place for this movie premiere to take place.
The first official in-person screening of Canfield Roots is taking place at the Canfield Community Centre this Thursday.
The documentary series consists of six 25-minute segments telling the story of Black freedom seekers who built a home in Canfield. Thursday’s event will feature a special 75-minute director’s cut for the screening.
The evening will also include an introduction to local history by historian Sylvia Weaver, a live auction featuring local donations, and a question and answer session with Director Graeme Bachiu, and Street family descendants Aileen Duncan and Spencer Martin, featured in the documentary.
Admission to the Canfield Roots Screening is $10 per person, with tickets available at the door. The screening begins at 7 p.m.
Funds raised will go back to the community centre.
