A family heartbroken and still in shock with no place to go.
This is what life is like right now for a Simcoe family after a fire ripped through their home this week.
Speaking to homeowner Rachel Rusk over the phone, she tells us that herself, her husband, her two young children and their three dogs only have one night left at a hotel before they are back to the drawing board.
Most of her identification and other important, irreplaceable items were inside the home and they do not know where they will spend the next few nights – let alone what the future after that holds.
She said that with the quickness of the blaze, the family is lucky to have escaped – though they are still mourning the loss of several animals that were left inside.
Family members have started a GoFundMe page to try and assist them during this hard time where they lost almost everything.
The house has been boarded up, as per request from the Fire Department, but the family has been able to try and salvage some of the items on the property.
Rusk also disputes the report from the Norfolk County Fire Department that said careless smoking was the cause of the blaze, saying the just returned home after being away and no one in the household smoked a cigarette that day.
Speaking to the Fire Department this morning, they stand behind their findings that smoking was the cause of the blaze.
