Great news for the Rainbow Crosswalk in Simcoe and nine year old Ryder Mandryk who was advocating for it.
After council turned down the idea of cost sharing the project last week, with an estimated budget of $15,000, the Audrey S. Hellyer Charitable Foundation made a donation to the cause in the total of $10K.
The contribution puts the total fundraising amount at $17,592.
Council had looked for cheaper options, but the group wanted to see the right material uses.
That was councillor Ian Rabbitts.
The remaining balance from the funds raised so far will be put toward a second crosswalk in another Norfolk County community – which, due to our chat with Ryder during Future Leaders Day – we may have a clue as to where that is.
More information on Ryder’s Rainbow can be found here.
