One of the biggest surprises in the upcoming Provincial election is that the long-time President of our local Progressive Conservative Riding Association is running as an independent.
And she is being backed by the outgoing Progressive Conservative MPP.
Bobbi-Ann Brady is no stranger to politics, having worked side by side with Toby Barrett for over 20 years.
She was there when Barrett decided to call it a day and hang up his boots and was eager to see who the next person would be to run for the PCs.
Then, Brady said that seemingly out of nowhere, the Ford government decided to appoint Ken Hewitt to the role.
She said local Conservatives were shocked that democracy was “side stepped” and she felt something needed to be done.
Brady says she is running as an independent during an ideal time when voters are beginning to question the major parties and the way they would cast their traditional vote.
She says there is something almost freeing about not having a party to report back to, as the unfiltered opinions of Haldimand-Norfolk will be heard.
Brady also anticipates a minority government, which she says would put an independent representative in a great position to lobby for the concerns of the area as each party would need her support.
When it comes to concerns in the area she wants to see addressed, she picked an issue down in Nanticoke that she feels needs urgent action.
Money is another big issue across the board.
She said the PC’s budget did not mention agriculture once, and she wants to know why.
She wants to help find long-term solutions to make life more affordable for families, not band aid solutions, and said things like affordable housing should be a top priority.
