Haldimand-Norfolk may be looking to partner up with local organizations to help the homeless in our community.
During a recent Health and Social Services Meeting, Heidy VanDyk Acting General Manager, Health & Social Services discussed a report they plan to bring to our elected officials after council asked what could be done to help the homeless population, especially during the extreme heat and extreme cold.
They reached out to municipalities in Ontario regarding how they operate a Homeless Shelter.
That does not include any capital costs, such as roof repair or damage to a building.
That is why staff is not leaning in that direction.
VanDyk said right now, their current system is working but there is no wiggle room when it comes to staff availability.
Because of all this, staff is recommending reaching out to organizations to operate a program while working closely with the dual counties.
Notably, a need for housing and/or heating and cooling centres are especially noted in Dunnville and Simcoe.
There have already been talks from other organizations who show interest in doing more.
Staff will bring the report to council, suggesting that they do an expression of interest to make sure there are interested groups and then draft up a Request For Proposal so she if any local groups submit their information.
All funding for a partnership would be provided through the province and at no cost to the county.
