On March 11th, 2020,the World Health Organization declared a worldwide pandemic.
For two years, it has been a journey filled with struggles, tears, scientific breakthroughs, and hope.
One thing that has stayed consistent is our hospitals, with nurses, doctors, and staff coming into work every single day facing the unknown but doing what they can to help their community
Spokesperson Aaron Gautreau, representing the Norfolk General Hospital and the West Haldimand General Hospital, talked to us about the official 2 year mark in the pandemic.
He said looking at what our local teams have seen during this time, going back to the early days of the pandemic, truly is incredible.
Gautreau said this team has worked hard over the past two years, and he wanted the community to understand how much their support has meant.
That moral boost is needed to, as this was a team effort behind our local hospital walls.
At the end of the day, he said these are local people helping other locals.
In short, over the past two years, the hospitals have watched as individuals in our community stepped up to the challenge.
Gautreau said they are proud of the progressive steps they took during this time as well, from being on the forefront of receiving vaccines in the area to establishing COVID-19 assessment centres to make sure the community could get tests.
He also noted that a lot of the strides they made are thanks to the help of volunteers and also retired individuals who came back to the hospital to help out during their time of need.
