The RAAM Clinic in Downtown Simcoe is trying to clear the air about what services they provide and their benefit to the community.
The Rapid Access to Addictions Medicine Clinic is still considered a new face in Simcoe, but it is often grouped in with other organizers in Norfolk’s core and their association to Methadone.
Addiction Psychiatrist Dr. Tanya Hauck, who is at the centre during their hours of operation, goes over what the RAAM clinic is and exactly what they do.
Dr. Hauck says it’s important that individuals can have easy access to services like this, because statistics show it is an uphill battle.
Dr. Hauch did strike on another sticking point that comes up with the RAAM clinic, and other organizations nearby, is there location in Downtown Simcoe.
RAAM Clinic Coordinator Stephanie Rochon says the reason for this is to help as many people as possible.
Rochon says having this easily accessible building can allow anyone to walk in, and get connected to the many resources they have.
Recently, the RAAM clinic has been under public scrutiny following a report at Council that questioned the effectiveness of methadone clinics.
Dr. Hauck said the issue here is, methadone is just one tool in their large toolbox they are using.
Rochon adds that when their efforts get public scrutiny and doubt like this, it can make those who really need their services not walk through the door, and that is not what they want.
