Emergency crews responded to Port Burwell Provincial Park on Saturday afternoon after reports of a missing swimmer and three near-drownings.
Elgin OPP, their marine unit, Bayham Fire and Rescue Services and Norfolk County Paramedic Services arrived at the park around 2 p.m. after two swimmers encountered difficulties in the water. Two others attempted to rescue them and also began to struggle.
A Good Samaritan on shore threw a life-saving ring into the water which resulted in the rescue of three of the individuals. The fourth person is missing.
Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team, OPP Canine Services along with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Trenton, Auxiliary Coast Guard and members of the Port Burwell Provincial Park continued searching the waters and shoreline of Lake Erie throughout the afternoon.
OPP Acting Sgt. Ed Sanchuk advised with the strong winds this afternoon, the water was very choppy.
