Parents and caregivers are being reminded to speak to their children about safety online.
Police say that a local male youth was sent a message online by someone claiming to be a female youth. During the conversation, the unknown individual asked for explicit photos, which were sent.
A demand for money was then made in exchange for the photos to not be distributed. Around $1,500 was sent before another request was made.
Police were then contacted.
The local OPP suggest The Canadian Centre for Child Protection as a resource for parents to educate their children.
