Last week, local youths received mail from the Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unit outlining information on the COVID-19 vaccine and listing upcoming clinics.
Following a diverse reaction to the mailer on social media, we asked parents to leave us voicemails expressing their thoughts on the mailers.
Provincially, youths over the age of 12 are able to consent to vaccines for themselves. The age group to receive the mail was between 12 and 17.
This was one of the voicemails from a parent.
Heidy Van Dyk, Acting General Manager of Health & Social Services, addressed the concerns during a media call.
She continued by saying the information provided was not meant to exclude parents or guardians.
The health unit says they provided to information to empower and support youths in their decision making as they are able to book their own appointments.
