A local man has been working towards teaching the community how to garden in straw.
Don Lawson, a certified straw bale garden instructor, has been gardening in straw bales for a few years now.
This year, Lawson has prepared a few bales and has vegetables planted at Community Living Access in Simcoe, where he hopes to be able to run lessons after COVID-19 restrictions have lifted.
Lawson said some of the benefits of gardening in straw include the raised beds, no need to weed, and being able to start a garden early.
Once lockdown restrictions have lifted, Lawson is hoping to run workshops at the Community Living Access parking lot for those interested in learning about the technique.
The journey of the gardens will be updated on the CLA Facebook page.
He also recommends a book on the subject by Joel Karsten for those looking for more information.
