Haldimand-Norfolk’s Interim Medical Officer Of Health intends on staying the course when it comes to rules put in place by his predecessor.
During a call with the media on Tuesday, during his first full day of work with the county, Dr. Alex Hukowich did address the more controversial orders issued by former Medical Officer Of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai.
Namely, section 22 orders around how many migrant workers can share a bunkhouse after immediately arriving in Canada and transporting those migrant workers back and forth from the airport.
Dr. Hukowich said earlier in the call that his role is to help out locally until a full time medical officer of health is hired in the coming weeks.
During this time, he doesn’t see the need to make any drastic changes to what the former medical officer of health had put into place right now.
Dr. Hukowich said Dr. David Williams requested that he step in to Haldimand-Norfolk as they search for a full time MOH and he accepted.
Since retiring, and especially during the pandemic, he said his role has been going to different communities and assisted with short term issues and providing assistance where needed.
