One thing was clear from emails sent to the radio stations – kids at St. Joseph’s in Simcoe love “Mr. Beehive” and “Mr. Hamburger.”
Real names Brian Vinnai and Rob Himburg, two custodians at the school, love their nicknames about as much as they love working with their school family.
These two funny guys try to go above and beyond to make the kids laugh and have that connection with the students.
Pre-COVID, that meant high five for the kids, but now they are air high fives and other creative ways to make the students laugh.
One game they have with the kindergarten class involved them walking down a line in the hallway outside the classroom.
A kid will then turn on a switch and the custodians will start shaking around pretending they got shocked.
They say they are getting a lot of mileage out of the gag and love doing it.
But talking to the custodians, they both can’t wait for kids to come back to school even though there isn’t as much to clean without them there.
They say the kids are what makes going to work each day great, and they are looking forward to the day they are back in school and they can keep joking around.
Brian specifically said he has watched kids go from JK to Grade 8 at the school, and he is proud to be a part of that journey.
