Lacie Hampson didn’t know what was to come as she stepped into the director role of the emergency department at Norfolk General Hospital just months prior to the COVID-19 pandemic beginning.
Hampson, who grew up in Haldimand and began her nursing career at NGH 14 years ago, has nursed in emergency and ICU for years. In November of 2019, she stepped into the director role at the hospital.
Since stepping into the role, a global pandemic took over and Hampson and her team needed to work quickly to ensure the safety of staff and patients that entered the emergency room.
The director also played a large part in bringing the COVID-19 assessment centre to Simcoe, saying her and her team looked at what other hospitals were doing to see how it could work at NGH.
The registered nurse says she has her team to thank for adapting to changes quickly, and appreciates them for getting the emergency room to where it is today.
