Andrew Gamble’s dream job wasn’t always to be a police officer.
In fact, the local cop originally went away from his Norfolk home to University to become a lawyer.
But Gamble told us that after some time in school, he started leaning towards policing and never looked back.
It was the feet-on-the-ground interactions that drew him in this direction, and the ability to work face to face with everyone in the community.
He says no two shifts are alike in Norfolk, from quiet days to one day a few years back where he saved someone’s life twice within 24 hours by administering naloxone.
He enjoys taking time to simply walk the streets, interact with people, and be a part of his home community.
That community outreach also stretches into the classroom, where his passion to be a role model and a positive voice of the police for children comes through loud and clear.
While these visits can have the officer being grilled with tough, unfiltered questions that only a child could throw out, he says he leaves these talks feeling great.
You can hear more about his job during the pandemic, working with children, and just what made him want to come back home to be a police officer in the interview below.
