The sheer amount of active COVID-19 cases has had its toll on our local Public Health Unit.
That was Medical Officer Of Health Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, talking about issues facing contact tracing in Haldimand-Norfolk due to the volume of active cases.
Our Health Unit has a certain number of staff, and they are stretched thin.
We are approaching close to 300 active cases in the region, but those confirmed cases also have close contacts who need to self isolate as well, which adds up quickly.
The hope is to ramp up contact tracing once numbers get back under control.
The issue is our local data shows, if the current trends continue, numbers are only going to keep climbing for the foreseeable future.
The doctor asks residents to follow public health guidance such as wearing a mask, keeping your distance, and washing your hands.
