Norfolk County Council decided to release previously private information regarding Normandale beach.
The Government of Ontario owns the beach, but the county has maintained it for over a decade to allow public access.
“Maintaining public access to beaches and waterways should be a priority of all levels of government, and Norfolk County strongly supports the public’s ability to have continued access to Normandale beach and Lake Erie,” said the release with the additional information.
On Wednesday, MPP Toby Barrett said he believes in keeping public beaches available to the public.
“Norfolk is happy to hear that our MPP is in support of keeping this beach open to the public and we hope to work with him on a solution that works for both the Province and residents,” continued the county’s release.
The release mentions the county has appraised the land at $25,000, but the province is asking $300,000.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, Barrett said the listing of the beach has been suspended to allow further discussion with the municipality.
