Port Dover – Melissa Mummery.
The two seem to go hand in hand with Mummery having a deep long-lasting connection with her community, often out advocating to make it the best it can be especially for kids.
The Realtor is well known all around Norfolk, having previously served as President with the Simcoe and District Real Estate Board and garnered up multiple awards amongst her peers across the country.
But while many people know her for her friendly nature and her presence in our budding real estate market, many parents know her as the woman out advocating to make Lakewood Elementary the best school it can be.
The Parent Council President is very vocal and very forward-thinking in making sure the school has everything it needs to thrive proudly talking about the snack program they have developed and the no child left behind policy as well.
That policy looks to make sure all kids can attend field trips with their peers and, should money be an option, they would find ways to make sure that students can quietly still attend.
Outside of the PTA, but still connected to Lakewood, she spends a lot of time planning and fundraising for the Todd Eaton Memorial Track.
She says that it is a track used not only by students and local Dover residents but from people all over the county looking for a decent walking track to go on.
She says as an elementary school that inherited the track from the former high school they feel privileged to have it and want to make sure it stays.
With that, Mummery adds there is a personal connection to this passion as well having gone to school with Todd’s younger brother and his mother also teaching her in school
Even in her spare time, she looks forward to Christmas time every year where she’s taken on the role of decorating the park with lights.
Her biggest drive to make the community better has to do with her children and making sure they have a good role model and outlook on life.
She says it is alright to have a complaint as long as you are actively working towards a solution.
She also wants to instill the lesson that you leave the world a better place than it was when you started.
