Food brings people together.
No one knows this more than Julianna Forde who moved to Port Dover when she was 19-years old after growing up in Barbados.
She fell in love with the community and has never once thought about leaving, in fact, she’s made sure to plant roots in the community using her skills in the kitchen when possible to help out those in need.
She helped organize the start of the First Serving program with First Baptist Church to serve food to people in the community free of charge.
Anyone is welcome and it often helps families who are going through hard times financially.
She serves food almost every Monday and while they do see familiar faces come in week to week they will often see new people come in looking for a good meal as well.
Staying in the kitchen, for the past 5-years, she has been providing meals locally to support Operation Eyesight whose goal is to work towards eliminating avoidable blindness around the globe.
She says that cooking is one of God’s gifts that were given to her so she uses it to try and help as many people as people.
She doesn’t do it for recognition or for someone to pay her back, but she says helping someone out in their time of need could lead to them helping someone else out in the future and so forth.
Her day job is working with an insurance company and even with that, they work hard to try and secure donations for groups in need and find ways to help individuals in our community who are struggling.
