The average home is looking at an 8.4 per cent tax increase.
This item likely sits top of mind for Norfolk County councillors and Mayor Kristal Chopp today (Tuesday) as they open up budget talks.
Mayor Chopp started the meeting with opening remarks.
She said one common theme she has seen online has been people asking why the budget increase is happening now and was not needed last year.
Mayor Chopp says this budget is about getting the County back on course but does realize the large increase will affect residents, especially Norfolk’s most vulnerable population.
She asked fellow councillors to keep that in mind moving forward.
Chair Chris Van Paassen said the numbers show the county has been losing substantial cash over the past decade and a big shift is needed.
