There is a new exception to the Grand Erie District School Board’s rule that if buses are canceled then schools will be closed for the day.
Recently a new set of rules has been put in place that will cancel buses and leave the doors open to school depending on the temperature outside.
The first situation that can trigger buses being canceled has to do with the buses themselves and the diesel inside.
That was Manager of Transportation Services Phil Kuckyt.
The other factor that will cancel buses has to do with the windchill and students waiting for transportation.
These calls will be made shortly after 6:30 a.m. through the media and on their social media pages.
In the event of heavy snow or icy conditions, the policy remains the same that if buses are canceled then school will be closed for the day.
A windchill chart can be found below to give parents a rough indication if buses may be canceled on a given morning.
Anything shaded orange to dark red recorded at 5 a.m. would warrant bus cancellations for the day.
