Norfolk County is cracking down on the number of clear plastic bags they find as part of the recycling program.
They say that several residents use clear plastic bags to hold their recycling and it’s causing challenges for staff at the Material Recovery Facility where recyclables are processed.
Staff has to rip open each bag to get the contents out which is time-consuming and labour intensive.
Bagged recycling can jam up conveyor belts and slows down the processing of recycling.
The County is asking that residents use recycling boxes for their recyclable materials as the boxes can be used repeatedly for several years.
They add that both the provincial and federal governments are trying to reduce the use of single-use plastic and this is an easy step.
