OPP Briefs include vehicles swerving out of the way to avoid hitting an intoxicated person

A driver in Norfolk County is about to be in a world of trouble. Police say a tow-truck operator who was helping someone on the side of the roadway was struck by a vehicle on Highway 3 in Townsend.

According to the OPP, the passing motorist keep on driving.

Another driver followed the suspect vehicle and gave police the license plate number.

The tow-truck operator will be okay. He suffered minor injuries.


Police say a 35-year old Norfolk County woman is fortunate to be alive after they received reports of an intoxicated person walking down the main drag in downtown Simcoe.

Just before 1-am on Friday, police found a woman walking in the middle of the roadway causing vehicles to swerve out of the way to avoid hitting her.

The 35-year old was quickly removed from the street and was charged with being intoxicated in a public place.


A significant amount of jewelry was the target of thieves in Simcoe.

Police say they smashed out a window and stole silver and gold rings, earrings, lockets, gold chains and bracelets.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.


The OPP is investigating a break and enter at home in Simcoe.

OPP investigators say thieves kicked down a door and once inside, they removed an Xbox and PlayStation4 gaming system.

Both are described as black colored consoles and are valued at approximately $900.


Police are once again reminding people to keep their vehicle doors locked after an incident on Potts Road in Simcoe.

On Monday a homeowner caught a man rummaging through their unlocked car.

The suspect was confronted, but police said the thief ran away.

The Norfolk OPP is reminding all vehicle owners to lock it or lose it.
