Cancer survivor urges people to protect their skin from the sun

Gordon Shewfelt knows first hand the dangers associated with not protecting yourself from the sun.

Shewfelt says he had surgery a few days later.

As an Ambassador for the Canadian Cancer Society, Shewfelt is reminding people of the simple ways you can protect yourself from the sun.

He says it’s best to avoid heading outside during the hottest times of the day like the noon hour. If you do find yourself out, make sure you apply sunscreen that is SPF 50 or higher.

You can also protect yourself by wearing a hat and using an umbrella if you’re out at the beach.
