The fun summer nights have arrived, but the Norfolk Fire Department wants to make sure everyone is enjoying their time safely.
Their meesage comes after an incident on Monday at Lighthouse Crescent in Long Point.
A large pile of wood was up in flames when fire crews arrived on the scene, and it was starting to spread to the garage.
The fire was casued by ashes from a fire pit that was not correctly disposed of.
Fire Prevention Officer Michael Atkins says they have already been busy this spring responding to numerous grass fires.
In this case, Norfolk firefighters were able to launch an aggressive fire attack on the wood pile and save the nearby building.
The estimated cost of damage is pegged at around $4,000.
