There will now be ten taxi companies in Norfolk County.
However, some councilors and cab companies are not excited to hear this news.
On Tuesday, council approved that City Taxi Brantford could run up to three vehicles in Norfolk.
Their central headquarters would stay in Brantford with an internet-based dispatch system, but they will hire local drivers.
Before this approval, there were nine taxi companies in Norfolk with 35 vehicles on the roadway.
For some councilors, like John Wells, this was too much.
Wells put a motion on the floor to deny the application.
But for councilors like Harold Sonnenberg, he felt that Norfolk County shouldn’t stick their nose into someone else’s businesses.
Wells motion failed in a split vote, with the new company approved shortly after.
