Two area police officers received Ontario's top honour for bravery.

Brant OPP Constables Paul Drake and Jeremy Morton received the province's highest honours for saving a man who was trapped inside a burning home on New Years Day.

Constable Morton and Drake put their lives on the line, running through thick smoke and flames with fire extinguishers to get to a victim that was trapped upstairs.

At the time, the officers were later taken to the hospital and were treated for smoke inhalation.

The Ontario Medal for Police Bravery is the province's highest honours, recognizing police officers whose actions demonstrate outstanding courage.
