MPP TIRED OF SEEING CALEDONIA BECOMING THE VICTIM IN BURTCH LAND DISPUTE
8/10/2017 5:19:30 PM

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett wants to see Argyle Street open and protesters off the road.

Members of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council are blocking Argyle Street South to protest the Burtch Lands, and they are stating that they will not move until their demands are met.

Barrett is sad to see the community of Caledonia once again suffering for a fight they aren't involved in while being in a situation that should not be happening.

For the road to reopen the Province and Canada must return to the negotiation table, that Ontario returns the Burtch Lands under the Haldimand Proclamation of 1784, and that Six Nations band council withdraw their injunction against Kris Hill and the people of Six Nations.

The OPP is there to preserve the peace and maintain safety, and they ask individuals affected by the demonstration to remain calm, patient, obey the law and respect the rights of others for the benefit of all.

Argyle Street North is closed at Highway 6, and southbound traffic is closed at Braemar Avenue.
